Happy New Year my wonderful readers!
Hope you enjoyed the holidays and are all in good health. This time of year comes with its own problems, because of the Harmattan, so we need to be mindful. One of such issues is the stubborn “common cold” which can prevent you from springing back from the holiday and back to work/school.

Here are a few remedies you can use in order to get back on your feet in no time.

Stay hydrated. Water, orange juice, or warm lemon water with honey helps loosen congestion and prevents dehydration. Warm Ginger water also does the trick.

Avoid alcohol, coffee and caffeinated sodas,They make the dehydration worse.

Soothe your sore throat with a saltwater gargle. Put 1/2 a teaspoon of  salt in a glass of warm water and Gargle. It can temporarily relieve a sore or scratchy throat. Lozenges are also very effective for a sore throat.

Get rid of the stuffiness in your nose with Over-the-counter nasal drops and sprays which help relieve the nasal congestion.

Relieve any pain with paracetamol or ibuprofen or variants like Panadol or Tylenol etc.

Sip warm liquids. Taking in warm liquids, such as light soup, tea, or warmed juice, is soothing and can ease congestion by increasing mucus flow

Over-the-counter cold and cough medications can be resorted to if all else fails. Nasal decongestants, antihistamines and pain relievers offer some symptom relief. However, they won’t prevent the cold or shorten its duration, and most have some side effects. They simply ease the discomfort.

There’s no excuse to let a stubborn cold hold you back this NewYear. Share with others as well!
