- STAY AWAY FROM THESE IF YOU HAVE ULCER

Stomach ulcers/gastric ulcers, are painful sores in the stomach lining. They occur when the thick layer of mucus that protects your stomach from digestive juices is reduced. This allows the digestive acids to eat away at the tissues that line the stomach, causing an ulcer.
Stomach ulcers are almost always caused by an infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori or with long-term use of NSAIDs, such as aspirin, ibuprofen.(Brufen

The treatment for ulcer usually involves antibiotics to kill the bacteria and also antacids which reduce the acid in the digestive tract and cause healing and pain relief. There is no specific diet prescription for a stomach ulcer. However, there are certain foods that can worsen the symptoms of burning, pain, indigestion, gas, nausea and vomiting and as such you should stay away from them if you have ulcers.

  1. COFFEE; According to research, caffeinated coffee and tea should be avoided because they stimulate the production of acid in the stomach, and can cause indigestion, ESPECIALLY in people with stomach ulcers.

  1. SODA and CARBONATED DRINKS; For the same reason of stimulation of increased production of acid within the stomach, leading to indigestion and worsened ulcer symptoms, carbonated drinks and sodas are not recommended for people with ulcer.

3.   ALCOHOL; Research has confirmed that alcohol intake increases gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is simply when contents of the stomach move back upwards towards the mouth through the oesophagus which is bad news for someone with stomach ulcers. Alcohol can IRRITATE AND ERODE the lining of the stomach and small intestine and should be COMPLETELY avoided by individuals with stomach ulcers because of the potential for bleeding and inflammation.

4.PEPPER AND SPICY FOOD; Avoid spicy foods, such as hot peppers and hot sauces, as well as foods that are very spicy. These can increase stomach acid, trigger acid reflux and worsen the symptoms associated with stomach ulcers.

5.CITRUS FRUITS AND PRODUCTS; Fruits high in citric acid cause discomfort in patients with stomach ulcers due to their acidic nature. Citric acid can be found in lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, and pineapples. It is also high in fruit juices, jams and jellies that are made from these fruits.

Please take note and act accordingly, so as not to worsen your case if you have stomach ulcers! If you know someone with stomach ulcers, kindly show care and SHARE this information with them so they can also take the necessary precautions
